Data Scientist, Sustainment Modeling & Simulation

AVNIK Defense Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Data Scientist or Data Analyst to support sustainment engineering analysis using USG Modeling & Simulation (M&S) tools for DEVCOM AvMC. This onsite role at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL focuses on logistics, sustainment, and procurement analysis for Army Aviation and Missile systems, including data extraction, analysis, and customer briefings.

• Interface with customers to define M&S requirements
• Develop software pipelines to manage the M&S environment
• Create charts, graphs, and conduct data analysis to deliver technical and engineering results to leadership and customers
• Interpret M&S outputs to support customer briefing development
• Prepare and present briefings covering analysis, current tasks, schedules, and goals
• Provide technical analysis on Army platform logistics and sustainment key performance metrics
• Contribute technical input for discussions related to technical issues, tasks, briefings, goals, and potential funding
• Resolve technical M&S issues through debugging, research, and investigation
• Manage workload across multiple projects or tasks while meeting delivery schedules
• Demonstrate professional communication skills daily

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering (Aerospace, Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, etc.), Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field, plus 5+ years of experience
• MS degree may substitute for 2 years of experience
• Additional relevant experience may substitute for the degree in accordance with the applicable contract labor category
• US Citizen
• Advanced software development skills (e.g., Python) and experience using version control (Git) in a team environment
• Experience using databases with SQL queries
• Familiarization with Statistical Methods, analysis, and theory (Linear Regression, Confidence Intervals, Probability Distributions)
• Working knowledge of M&S theory (Discrete Event Simulation, Stochastic, Deterministic, Monte Carlo, Heuristic, etc.)
• Advanced skills with MS Office tools including Excel and Power Point
• Ability to clean and parse large and complex datasets
• Experience writing technical reports and developing customer briefings
• Self-starter with independence and strong work ethic
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to clearly communicate in discussions and written documents and deliver regular updates and feedback
• Must hold an Interim SECRET clearance at start and be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance

• Experience applying NLP (e.g., spaCy, named entity recognition) or LLM applications to unstructured text

• Experience fitting and validating probability distributions (Weibull, exponential, lognormal) to failure and maintenance data, including goodness-of-fit testing
• Experience with optimization methods (linear or mixed-integer programming) applied to logistics or resource allocation problems
• Familiarity with Army logistics and maintenance data systems including GCSS-Army, TAMMS-A, AESIP, LMP, Army Vantage, and OSMIS
• Experience calculating sustainment metrics including operational availability (Ao), materiel availability (Am), NMC rates, and O&S cost
