We are seeking a Sr. Associate in Composite Manufacturing to support our Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) in Huntsville, AL. The role focuses on filament winding and advanced composite parts for aerospace hardware.
Essential Functions- Provides technical expertise in composite filament winding processes.
- Key contributor in standing up production lines in Huntsville for programs moving from other L3
Harris facilities and ensuring smooth ramp‑up to full production rates. - Participates in equipment qualification efforts.
- Plans, develops, initiates and maintains processes for the fabrication of advanced composite parts.
- Creates detailed work instructions, procedures, PFMEAs, and JSAs that meet design, process, quality, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Provides shop floor support of advanced composite manufacturing processes.
- Provides technical guidance and/or training to shop floor, design and management teams.
- Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to develop robust and advanced part and tooling designs.
- Interfaces with all related support groups for processes to ensure accuracy, control and safety of the personnel and quality of the hardware.
- Participates in investigations of nonconforming hardware and implements corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Present fabrication processes at customer readiness reviews and presents process changes to customers at change board meetings.
- Typically, less than 5% travel may be required to support suppliers or other manufacturing sites; occasional travel may increase during high demand.
- Occasional off‑shift and weekend work required to support manufacturing schedules.
- Ability to obtain US Security Clearance.
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 2 years of prior relevant engineering experience; or Graduate Degree with 0‑2 years of prior related engineering experience; or, in lieu of a degree, minimum 6 years of prior related engineering experience.
- Experience with composite filament winding.
- Programming and operation of 4 or 5 axis filament wind machines.
- Programming and operation of composite cure ovens.
- Knowledge of composite materials, including behavior of different fibers (carbon, glass, aramid) and resin systems.
- Hand lay‑up and cure of insulation, composite and/or other materials.
- Strong GD&T background supporting part validation.
- CAD modeling experience.
- Experience operating robots, presses, ovens, winders, CNC machines, cutting tables and/or autoclaves.
- Strong cross‑functional communication skills.
- Strong problem‑solving skills.
- Adaptable to a changing work environment.
