We are looking for an Optimization Scientist in the Tech Development and Analytics team at DEFCON AI, based in Huntsville, AL (or willing to relocate). As an Optimization Scientist, you will drive the development and deployment of our latest optimization models to production.
Responsibilities- Integrate with an interdisciplinary team of experts in optimization and simulation to design, build, and optimize models that deliver high‑quality, real‑world insights.
- Design and implement novel heuristics and optimization models to solve complex problems in various industries, ensuring efficiency and scalability.
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in decision science and implement best practices for our customers.
- Communicate complex technical concepts and findings to non‑technical stakeholders clearly and concisely.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into actionable solutions.
- Demonstrated expertise in building mathematical optimization models for complex real‑world problems.
- Ability to write efficient, clean, and maintainable code in one or more programming languages, with willingness to learn more.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with emphasis on effectively communicating highly technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- An advanced degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- A U.S. Secret Clearance is required.
- Reside in Huntsville, AL or willingness to relocate (company‑assisted).
- Experience with cloud‑based SaaS products and pipelines.
- Experience with algebraic modeling languages and solvers (e.g., Pyomo, GAMS, AMPL, CPLEX, Gurobi).
- A Ph.D. with a focus on Optimization.
- Experience modeling transportation and logistics.
- Publications in scientific journals and/or conferences.

$160,000–$300,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience, skills, and other factors.
