Job DescriptionWe are looking to fill an Engineering Technician Level IV to support our NASA customer. The Engineering Technician IV meets all of the following criteria:
- Provide semi‑professional technical support for engineers working in research, design, development, testing, or manufacturing process improvement.
- Work pertains to electrical, electronic, or mechanical components or equipment.
- Have some practical knowledge of science or engineering.
- Some positions may require practical knowledge of mathematics or computer science.
- Prepare design drawings and assist with the design, evaluation, and/or modification of machinery and equipment.
- Perform non‑routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity, using operational precedents that are not fully applicable. Allocate and plan such assignments as part of broader projects.
- Receive technical advice from supervisors or engineers.
- Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions.
This position may be assisted by lower‑level technicians and have frequent contact with professionals and others within the establishment, and performs one or a combination of typical duties such as:
- Develop or review designs by extracting and analyzing a variety of engineering data, applying conventional practices to develop, prepare, or recommend schematics, designs, specifications, electrical drawings, and parts lists. Examples include detailed circuit diagrams, hardware fittings or test equipment, conventional piping systems, and building site layouts.
- Conduct complex tests or experiments requiring selection, adaptation, or modification of a wide variety of critical test equipment and procedures; prepare and operate equipment; record data; measure and resolve problems of significant complexity; and analyze data and prepare test reports.
- Apply methods outlined by others to limited segments of research and development projects; construct experimental or prototype models to meet engineering requirements; conduct tests or experiments; redesign as necessary; and record and evaluate data and findings.
- Extract and compile engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc.; process data; identify errors or inconsistencies; select methods of data presentation.
- Assist in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials pertinent to equipment or component parts; develop information concerning previous operational failures and modifications; and use judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek clarification.
The position operates in unique, “one of a kind,” and/or hazardous research and test facilities, test stands, laboratories, chambers, and equipment, requiring highly specialized skills that can only be obtained through specialized training, on‑the‑job experience, and certification(s).
