Junior Robotics Computer Engineer
Leidos Innovations Center – Guidance, Navigation, Control, and Autonomy Branch
The role focuses on developing, simulating, analyzing, and field‑testing navigation algorithms that enable autonomous robotic operations for high‑profile customers such as DARPA, NASA, the Air Force, and the Office of Naval Research. You will collaborate with small, cross‑functional teams using iterative, agile development to deliver field‑ready demonstrations.
Location: Huntsville, AL (primary). Telework available up to one day per week.
Primary Responsibilities- Assist with sensor and computing platform integration across interfaces (RS232, RS422, SPI, I2C, TCP/IP, etc.)
- Deploy novel algorithms for optimal estimation and computer vision on various processing architectures for real‑time execution
- Support software architecture through design, programming, and code reviews
- Collaborate with a team of 3–5 engineers to test algorithms on demonstration hardware
- Travel with the team to demonstrate systems in real‑world conditions (1–2 weeks per engagement, 3–4 times per year)
- Present techniques, solutions, and results to the team
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, software engineering, or related field; less than two years of experience.
- Experience developing in a Linux environment, programming in C/C++, and exposure to Python or MATLAB.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance after hiring.
- Experience interfacing with inertial sensors, GPS, altimeters, cameras, LiDAR, odometers, etc.
- Experience deploying navigation algorithms to real‑time applications.
- Strong knowledge of Linux, C++, and/or Python.
- Proficiency with version control tools, especially Git and Git Lab.
- Experience in autonomous system development through robotics competitions.
- Existing U.S. security clearance (Secret or higher).
