CHIEF PRODUCTION MANAGER & SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Position Overview

Raptor Scientific is now seeking an entrepreneurial, hands‑on Production Manager and Systems Engineer to help lead the Thermal Systems business and be integral in executing the business and operational strategy. This position will directly support our MEDTHERM business unit, including in‑office support at the company's office location in Huntsville, AL.

This position is the technical lead for projects and production, with responsibility for the planning and development of heat flux sensors and thermocouples with integration into systems. The candidate will assist with drawing packages for job orders to be released to fabrication. The candidate will also serve as the Technical/Engineering liaison with supplier, manufacturing and customers, and provide support in the development of technology strategy and product offerings for the business.

With proper training and mentoring, the candidate would become responsible for the overall design content from concept through detailed drawings.

Key Performance Goals and Responsibilities
  • Working with Production Supervisor and General Manager to plan production operations, establishing priorities and goals for the production team
  • Production Planning and Revenue management, and weekly reporting to the executive team
  • Identify business improvement opportunities and productivity within the organization
  • Provide technical lead support in developing business opportunities with relevant material and preparing proposals
  • Develop technical aspects of the company's strategy to ensure alignment with its business goals
  • Set up new production lines for thermal products as required to meet customer demand
  • Ensure an effective interface with other Raptor business units
  • Provide technical expertise to assembly technicians and machinists
  • Work with the General Manager in managing technicians, ensuring adequate staffing levels, recruitment, training, development, appraisal, attendance, disciplinary issues, and daily supervision to maximize efficient productivity
  • Work with the executive team and General Manager to prepare the annual Engineering budget and forecasts, including Capital Expenditure proposals and Productivity Initiatives
  • Collaborate with Sales & Marketing, and provide technical support
  • Provide new project cost, time estimates, and customer contract development, including corporate approval processes
  • Work processes and procedure improvements to optimize and improve the quality of delivery in line with quality standards requirements, including company and customer requirements
  • Responsibility for the design of heat flux sensors and their integration into systems (these are "delta" designs based on established drawings and typically require changing the outer mold line of existing products to meet customers' mounting requirements).
  • ERP maintenance and implementation for production and engineering
Candidate Experience and Qualifications
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
  • Good communication and people skills
  • Experience with CAD modeling is preferred
  • Machine shop and/or test equipment experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated technical competency and hands‑on experience in a related field
  • Knowledge of manual shop operations is preferred
  • Ability to streamline and quickly adapt to support shifting demands
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability and willingness to learn various business software (e.g. ERP)
