OPPORTUNITY
DESCRIPTION:
Seeks a highly motivated and proficient Physicist to onsite programs located in Huntsville, Alabama. The successful candidate will operate and maintain a guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) lab supporting foreign material exploitation (FME) onsite at a customer location. You will support managing advanced, multidisciplinary FME labs that contribute to the analysis of missile system components from man‑portable air‑defense systems (MANPADS), short‑range ballistic missiles (SRBMs), surface‑to‑air missiles (SAMs), anti‑tank guided missiles (ATGMs), transporter erector launchers (TELs), decoys, camouflage, and directed energy weapon (DEW) electronics.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:- Operate and maintain an Electro‑Optical lab to test and characterize IR and electro‑optical systems.
- Design and assemble optical and opto‑mechanical setups on benches, breadboards, and in the field.
- Conduct optical measurements to maintain lab calibration standards.
- Perform opto‑electronic tests to evaluate sensor behavior under realistic conditions.
- Develop custom electro‑optical instruments and supporting electrical test systems.
- Select, procure, and integrate instrumentation to expand FME test capabilities.
- Install and upgrade interface cables, panels, and measurement racks.
- Communicate test results and technical insights clearly to both technical teams and customers.
- Technical Expertise:
Experience in using 2‑axis and 3‑axis rotation table, power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, counters, signal and arbitrary waveform generators. - Software Proficiency: C#, NI LabVIEW, Python, C/C++, and MATLAB.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
BS degree in a scientific field (physics, applied mathematics, engineering) and 5 years experience or a master’s degree and 3 years experience.
CLEARANCE:Candidate must have an active DoD Secret clearance to start and must be able to obtain a Top Secret (TS) clearance with SCI and pass a counter‑intelligence (CI) polygraph within 2 years of hire.
DESIREDQUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency in microscopy, interferometry, spectroscopy, radiometry, programming, embedded systems, mechanical design, electrical instrumentation, and data science.
- Skilled in calibration procedures and statistical analysis.
- Experience managing lab inventory, coordinating vendor maintenance, and handling shipment of sensitive instrumentation.
- Proven ability to track maintenance and calibration records to maintain accountability and ensure mission readiness.
