Overview
This position represents registered or registry-eligible polysomnographic technologists with a complete and thorough understanding of all processes and procedures related to sleep diagnostics. Patient testing and record scoring are the main functions of this position. Registered Polysomnographic technologists will aide in decision processes as they relate from patient to patient and working with non-registered PSGs, trainees and students.
QualificationsEducation: High School Degree / GED is required. Further educational requirements are based on the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
License, Certification and/or Registration:
RPSGT by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists is not required for this position. Upon obtainment of the RPGST status, employee ill be moved to the PSG Technologist position and receive additional compensation,
Certification of BLS is preferred and mandatory upon completion of the provisional period.
Employees in this job description must be registered through the BRPT, or be “registry-eligible” by meeting one of the following;
- A-Step program of the AASM (AASM Pathway #
1) - Have current certification in respiratory therapy by the NBRC, (AASM pathway #
2) - Complete a CAAHEP accredited Sleep Technologist or END program or a Respiratory Therapy add-on track for sleep technology (AASM pathway #
3)
Current employees, as of August 2010, must be registry eligible by July 1, 2011
Experience: Prefer 18 months full-time work / educational experience in polysomnographic technology
Additional Skills/Abilities:
Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. Must have the ability to work with others in a positive and supportive manner. Must have the ability to accurately perform head measurements and successfully place electrodes using the International 10-20 Electrode Placement System. Analytical ability with a working knowledge of polysomnography required when gathering and interpreting data in situations where the problems are somewhat complex and make clinical decisions as related to procedural guidelines.
