Position Summary:
This position is responsible for aseptic recovery of corneal tissue for transplant and will require being on call and traveling to donor locations, which may include hospitals, funeral homes, or medical examiners’ offices. All procedures are performed within and under the scope of ASN’s mission, values, and established policies and procedures compliant with EBAA and FDA standards.
Responsibilities:
The following list outlines the essential day‑to‑day tasks.
- Perform initial tasks related to service operations.
- Understand ASN’s core values and mission.
- Be open and approachable to receiving information about improvement.
- Be ready to work when scheduled, be timely, and communicate any lateness.
- Perform on‑call duties to ensure recoveries in the coverage area are completed.
- Conduct sterile surgical recovery of ocular tissue from cadaveric donors for transplant, education, and research, including drawing and/or obtaining blood samples for serological testing.
- Conduct a thorough physical assessment of the donor.
- Review and evaluate available donor medical records on site to determine preliminary donor suitability prior to recovery.
- Travel to designated areas such as hospitals, funeral homes, and medical examiner/coroner facilities to perform recovery services.
- Enter recovery and donor data into appropriate databases.
- Package recovered tissue according to SOPs to ensure safety for transport to the designated ASN laboratory for processing.
- Deliver tissue to local couriers and surgeons within the region.
- May on occasion be required to process and ship donor blood samples/specimens per SOPs to designated reference laboratories for testing.

Physical Requirements
Qualifications:
- Surgical Technician or Certified Ophthalmic Technician preferred or other hospital/medical professional experience.
- Position requires Saturday, Sunday, and/or holiday coverage/work.
- Position requires evening and night shift coverage.
- Ability to interact with peers and hospital personnel on assignments.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Position requires travel and use of a personal car if a company vehicle is not available.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel throughout the service area as required.
- Driving for extended periods or long distances may be required.
- Frequent periods of intense concentration, attention to detail, and accuracy.
- Ability to handle mental and physical strain involved in printed materials and prolonged computer screen use.
- Moderate manual dexterity for basic keyboarding.
- Long periods of sitting and/or standing may be required.
- Ability to push/pull up to 350 pounds with assistance.
