Overview
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is an 11 bed ICU that cares for critically ill children at Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children. The PICU is staffed by RNs, NPs, and Pediatric Intensivists who work closely with a supportive multidisciplinary care team to provide acute care to children from 0-18 years of age. We offer a progressive educational program to train staff in pediatric critical care, including monthly in services from our physicians.

The PICU RN provides care for children and adolescents from 0-18 years of age with life-threatening or high-acuity conditions requiring constant monitoring. The RN identifies patient needs and priorities for care through detailed assessment of children with respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, orthopedic, endocrine and neurologic dysfunction. The PICU RN plans and delivers safe, age-appropriate care under critical situations based on the patient’s needs, including titration of drips, multiple technical procedures, and use of a variety of equipment for acute care.
The RN evaluates the patient’s response to care and the attainment of or progress toward expected outcomes. The RN is accountable for outcomes of patient care delivered during the assigned shift, and strives to provide clinical and service excellence.
Seasonal PRN. Must work full-time hours October through February. March through May and August through September must work 24 shifts. Off for the months of June and July. Holiday requirements will remain in effect with the exception of the holidays in June and July.

QualificationsEducation: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing with current Alabama licensure.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of Pediatric experience.
License, Certification and/or Registration: PALS Certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire. BLS and PALS must be obtained and/or maintained through Huntsville Hospital's Corporate University.
