About the NASA Postdoctoral ProgramThe NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers one- to three-year fellowships to highly talented scientists, supporting research at NASA Centers, Headquarters, or affiliated institutes. Fellowships advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.
DescriptionThe Astrophysics Branch at MSFC seeks applicants to contribute to activities within its research portfolio, including experimental, observational, and theoretical work in X‑ray and gamma‑ray astronomy; time‑domain and multi‑messenger astronomy; gravitational‑wave data analysis and modeling; X‑ray optics; and development of detectors and technology for future high‑energy astrophysics missions. The Branch leads:
- Imaging X‑ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE)
- Chandra X‑ray Observatory project science and observatory support
- Future X‑ray mission studies
- Fermi Gamma‑ray Burst Monitor (GBM)
- Star Burst, Pioneer‑class mission for high‑energy gamma rays with gravitational‑wave detections
- Super
HERO, balloon mission for next‑generation hard X‑ray optics - NASA’s contribution to Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) data processing
Facilities include the MSFC‑100m X‑ray beamline, the X‑ray and Cryogenic Facility (XRCF), and access to MSFC engineering and concept study development.
