Field Service Technician – Electrical Testing Technician
USC Power Services in Huntsville, AL is looking to fill the following roles:
NETA 1, NETA 2, NETA 3, NETA 4, Entry‑Level, Lead Field Service Technician
.
As an Electrical Testing Technician, you will work alongside other testing technicians to test electrical equipment in accordance with published NETA testing standards. The types of equipment include but are not limited to electrical components in the following areas: generation, transmission, medium voltage distribution, low voltage commercial and industrial, DC backup systems, and protection schemes. This position is open to entry‑level and experienced personnel.

- Procure your own travel for work outside the local region.
- Submit all approved expenses for reimbursement.
- Perform work in field environments and on construction sites as needed for customer support.
- Work after hours (overtime) as required.
- Travel (by plane or driving) to other regional areas to support company manpower requirements.
- Maintain a company vehicle if issued.
- Maintain company equipment to ensure proper operation.
- Provide your own personal hand tools; specialty tools will be provided.
- Ensure your own safety; comply with company safety policies.
- Be punctual and self‑directed.
- Use computer software and data entry (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Continually develop technical proficiency in new and old working technologies.
- Familiar with and have a sound working knowledge of the NETA Maintenance and NETA Acceptance testing specifications.
- Communicate effectively with the customer, the vendor and fellow employees.
- Stay productive in the field and in the shop.
- Demonstrate leadership by teaching others proper safe work practices and testing procedures.
- Aid others in solving problems and ensuring that apprentice level employees remain productive.
- Manage a working crew of up to 3 technicians and/or electricians to complete the assigned project without overruns.
- Review technical documents and develop technical reports (project summary, deficiencies, corrective actions).
- Employ strong technical problem‑solving skills.
- Determine suitable test procedures and execute them with little to no supervision.
- Ensure testing is performed safely and has complete knowledge of hazards.
- Determine serviceability or non‑serviceability of equipment based on test data.
- Professional and positive attitude.
- Integrity.
- Ability to learn and adapt.
- Capable of passing random drug screening.
- Acceptable background check.
- Authorized to work in the US.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to travel for work.
- NETA certified.
- NICET certified (Power Testing only).
- College degree in an electrical field.
- AC theory training.
- DC theory training.
- Ability to read schematics.
- Electrical troubleshooting skills.

Compensation$50,000.00 – $62,500.00 (entry‑level) – plus potential sign‑on bonuses for senior candidates.
