Job Summary
Performs highly complex inventory work in a commissary warehouse. Work involves stocking, arranging, and transferring inventory; displaying and selling merchandise; ensuring compliance with established security requirements, loss prevention controls, and procedures; and providing guidance to others. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Functions

  • Monitors and reviews commissary warehouse operations; receives and transfers merchandise to unit commissaries and ensures accurate recording of commissary merchandise.
  • Schedules and conducts automated physical inventory and periodic item inventory audits; ensures compliance with established security and inventory requirements and procedures.
  • Trains and supervises offenders in inventory management and control methods; provides technical assistance in the program area.
  • Assists in maintaining security of assigned offenders.
  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
  • Three years full-time, wage-earning supply, warehouse operations, inventory or stock control, or purchasing experience. Thirty semester hours from a college or university accredited by a recognized organization may be substituted for each year of experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience in the supervision of offenders preferred.
  • Budget monitoring experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of warehouse operations and inventory methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of inventory and stock control record keeping and automated inventory control systems.
  • Knowledge of property accounting practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and statutes pertaining to the handling of state property preferred.
  • Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.
  • Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in problem-solving techniques.
  • Skill in the use of computers and related equipment in a stand-alone or local area network environment.
  • Skill to prepare and maintain complex records and files in an automated system.
  • Skill to review warehouse operations for compliance with established procedures.
  • Skill to train and supervise the work of offenders.

  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, crawl, twist, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 15-44 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.
  • Conditions include working inside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, radiant and electrical energy, working closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours, and traveling by car, van, bus, and airplane.
  • Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing only the essential functions include computer and related equipment, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, dolly, and automobile.
