Dental Assistant – Holliday Unit – Huntsville
The University of Texas Medical Branch is seeking a Dental Assistant to provide direct and indirect patient care within the Correctional Managed Care unit. The successful candidate will work in a prison, jail, or juvenile detention facility, providing dental services to underserved populations.
Job SummaryPerform direct and indirect patient care procedures as directed by the supervising dentist, including radiography, laboratory work, and dental health education for inmates.
Essential Job Functions- Takes and records patient health history, vital signs, performs radiography, dental laboratory procedures, and inmate dental health orientation and education.
- Assists in preventive, periodontal, restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, and oral surgery procedures; records clinical observations and treatment information.
- Maintains clinic orderliness and cleanliness; sterilizes instruments and equipment. Monitors inventory, logs hazardous materials, and maintains tracking logs for all prosthetic cases.
- Uses computers to enter and assimilate data, generate reports, draft correspondence, and develop administrative analyses.
- Executes administrative support tasks, including filing, routing phone calls, scanning, emailing, and faxing information.
- Operates data entry system for daily sick call requests and schedules appointments using the scheduling program.
- Receives, stores, distributes, and maintains inventory levels for the dental department; fills requisitions, work orders, and manages returns to the warehouse.
- Adheres to internal controls and reporting structures for the department.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Performs additional duties as directed that are not listed.
- Provides coverage to units outside normal assignments on an as‑needed basis.
Standard office and dental clinic equipment.
Work EnvironmentLocated within a prison or detention facility; security clearance and pre‑employment drug testing required. May be required to provide dental assistance at multiple facilities.
Required Education / Experience- Dental assistant registration must be current and continuously maintained with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.
- Must maintain current CPR certification.
Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work experience.
