Bachelor’s degree. No experience required. Knowledge of Sam Houston student recruitment activities, admissions policies, and university procedures helpful. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Nature And Purpose Of PositionResponsible for translating the goals and values of the University to all categories of prospective students. Participates in activities involving the projection of the University’s image to the public, assisting students transition into the University, keeping the University aware of changing characteristics of students, and securing for the University the students who can best profit from the educational opportunities offered by the University.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Participate in the total academic student recruiting program.
- Review applications for admissions and make decisions on admittance or denial.
- Visit high schools, junior/community colleges, organizations, etc. as part of the recruiting effort.
- Assist academic departments in recruiting by forwarding names of prospective students interested in their area.
- Identify and contact academically superior students.
- Provide telephone calls and follow-ups to prospective students.
- Assist in developing marketing techniques for recruiting students.
- Make contact with former students and student organizations to assist in academic recruiting.
- Coordinate campus visit requests and tours of the campus by potential students and parents.
- May assist with Saturday visitation programs, including planning, implementing, designing brochures, marketing, training and supervising student counselors, preparing literature, planning activities, and evaluating the program.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Computer skills strongly desirable. Regular contact with prospective students, parents, alumni, other state agencies, officials, junior/community college officials, and high schools. May require extensive travel during fall and some weeks in spring. Must possess excellent communication skills, be reliable, personable, and project a positive image for the department and University. Requires a valid Texas driver’s license and clean driving record. Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
