Usual DutiesTeaches Computer Information Systems and Security courses, including but not limited to IT Essentials, Operating Systems, Networking, Scripting, Cloud Computing, Shell Programming, and Information Security, at various times and instructional modalities (in-person, hybrid, and online). Develops and delivers hands‑on, competency-based lessons that align with course learning outcomes and industry standards (e.g., NIST, Cisco, CompTIA). Submits accurate and timely reports, attendance records, grades, and other required documentation in accordance with institutional policies.
Utilizes and adheres to approved course syllabi, ensuring content coverage and rigor in alignment with Workforce Education Course Manual (WECM) guidelines. Provides academic advising and availability to students through scheduled office hours, email, or virtual meetings to support student success. Assesses student performance using a variety of evaluation tools and communicates progress promptly, providing constructive feedback to guide improvement. Maintains professional and collegial relationships with students, colleagues, and community stakeholders, contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Participates in departmental meetings, curriculum development, assessment activities, professional development workshops, and institutional trainings. Performs other duties as assigned, which may include collaboration on program enhancement, advisory committee engagement, or coordination of instructional resources.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field. Work experience may also be considered.
Experience RequirementsStrong commitment to the mission of Sam Poly. Demonstrated mastery of subject matter across areas including computer hardware, networking technologies, operating systems (Windows/Linux), cybersecurity principles, cloud services, and scripting languages. Experience with or ability to teach hands‑on technical skills using industry tools (e.g., Cisco Packet Tracer, virtualization platforms, security scanners, scripting environments). Effective instructional design and classroom management skills that foster active learning, student engagement, and measurable skills development.
Ability to apply adult learning principles and support various learning styles using inclusive and equitable teaching methods. Strong communication skills both oral and written with the ability to explain complex technical concepts in accessible terms. Ability to collaborate with faculty peers, industry partners, and advisory boards to align curriculum with workforce needs and evolving technologies. Commitment to continuous professional growth, academic excellence, and student‑centered teaching.
Willingness to incorporate service learning, interdisciplinary teaching, and emerging instructional technologies into course delivery. Proficiency with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard) and digital learning tools.
