Educational and Experience Requirement
- Bachelor's degree. No experience required.
- Knowledge of SHSU student recruitment activities, admissions policies, and university procedures helpful.
- Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Responsible for translating the goals and values of the University to all prospective students, participating in student recruiting activities, and assisting students through admission and transition stages.
Primary Responsibilities
- Review applications for admission and decide on admission or denial.
- Visit high schools, junior colleges, community colleges, and organizations to recruit students.
- Assist academic departments by forwarding names of prospective students.
- Contact academically superior students and provide telephone follow‑ups.
- Develop marketing techniques for student recruitment.
- Coordinate campus visit requests and tours of the campus by prospective students and parents.
- Assist with Saturday visitation programs (planning, marketing, training student counselors, preparing literature).
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications
- Computer skills strongly desirable.
- Regular contact with prospective students, parents, alumni, officials, and high schools.
- May require extensive travel during fall (mid‑September to mid‑December) and some weeks in spring.
- Must be reliable, personable, with a positive image of the department and University.
- Requires a valid Texas driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Spanish communication ability is a plus.
