TDCJ - Sergeant of Correctional Officers - Region

Job Duties:

This position performs entry-level correctional supervisory and instructional work that supports classroom and hands-on training for new hires and incumbent staff at a Regional Training Academy. Key responsibilities include instructing security and non-security trainees and employees in security procedures, searches, inmate custody and management, emergency response, defensive tactics, and the use of firearms and chemical agent delivery systems. The role requires preparing training materials, providing classroom instruction, counseling, and supervision, evaluating trainee performance, administering examinations, and coordinating with academy leadership to maintain training schedules.

Additional duties involve developing and revising lesson plans, instructional methods, and training aids; compiling and maintaining training records; and ensuring compliance with agency policies, procedures, and safety standards. This position ensures academy trainees are prepared for safe and effective facility operations.

You'd be a GOOD fit if:

High school diploma or GED2+ years of correctional custody or law enforcement experience

Willing and able to complete all required instructor certification courses within 6 months of hire

You'd be a GREAT fit if:

Experience in curriculum development and providing instruction

Training or teaching experience

Correctional custody or law enforcement supervisory experience

Certification as a defensive tactics, firearms, or chemical agents instructor (or group fitness/personal trainer/martial arts instructor)
Working knowledge of adult education principles and instructional/curriculum design
