Travel:
Yes, up to 25% of the time

ResponsibilitiesPerforms advanced and complex transportation engineering work in planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. May have contact with governmental officials and private entities. Establishes own work plan and priorities to meet objectives; issues are typically handled at the worker level rather than by the supervisor.
Acts as a consultant to staff engineers to coordinate construction operations.
Assists district and division personnel with material and fabrication requirements, and advises on appropriate materials and fabrication applications and acceptability.
Oversees construction project traffic control plans and periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers.
Assists in reviewing shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structures.
Assists Project Managers with resource assignments, schedules, scope, communication, quality, and/or procurement, while utilizing available resources to meet agency objectives.
Develops and/or reviews engineering documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.
Drives to project/work locations for on-site reviews, analyses, tests, and technical support.
Resolves differences between contractors and inspectors. Reviews change orders, supplemental agreements, memoranda, and extra work orders; assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.
Minimum QualificationsEducation
:
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science accepted by TX PELS.
Experience
: (Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications.
Licenses and Certifications

- Valid driver’s license (state vehicle required)
- Licensed Professional Engineer*
* Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in Texas, must meet the licensing requirements of the Texas Engineering Practices Act, obtain a Texas professional engineering license within six (6) months of hire, and sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.
