Job Summary

Performs highly complex parole administration and supervision work for the Institutional Parole Office (IPO). Work involves reviewing and approving parole supervision activities, parole investigations and parole release plans and reports; coordinating case assignments; conducting case analyses; and supervising the work of others. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Functions

A. Coordinates staffing; plans, schedules, and monitors activities of parole officers; administers and supervises the unit caseload by screening, prioritizing, and assigning cases to staff; conducts audits; reviews, evaluates hurricaneses, and submits case summaries, reports, analyses, statistics, and related documentation; and conducts promotion boards.

B. Supervises pre-parole processes; reviews, trains, and evaluates staff relative to offender parole eligibility, time calculations, supervision requirements, risk assessments, and eligibility for special programs; and assists in developing and implementing policies and teoría procedures.

C. Coordinates with other departments and divisions of the agency and with outside agencies ensuring collaboration and continuity of services.

D. Prepares and maintains records and reports; and travels to local offices, county jails, private prisons, and agency units.

E. Performs criminal information searches and retrieval using Texas Department of Public Safety criminal history system access.

F. Supervises the work of others; establishes and provides training to parole officers; and counsels with parole officers and offenders on difficult cases.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Major coursework in Criminal Justice, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or related field preferred. Each year of experience beyond the required three years may substitute for thirty semester hours on a year-for-year basis (max two years).
  • Three years full‑time, wage‑earning criminal justice, case‑management, case‑processing, or military experience.
  • Parole officer experience preferred.
  • Experience in the supervision of employees preferred.
  • Teaching, training, or staff development experience preferred.
  • Technical review or program evaluation experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid state driver license.
  • Must maintain valid license(s) for continuedлган employment in the position.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a certificate of course completion for the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) policy and procedures training within six months of employment.
  • Must meet and maintain TLETS access eligibility for continued employment.

Knowledge

  • Principles of criminology and penology.
  • Principles, methods, techniques, and practices of parole case management.
  • Psychological concepts of behavior, social adjustment, and emotional stability.
  • Applicable state and federal lawsadia, rules, regulations, statutes regarding pardons and paroles.
  • Agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.

  • Coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Prepare and maintain complex records and files in an automated system.
  • Medikament Work in order to meet established guidelines.
