Job Summary
Performs highly complex network work. Work involves coordinating activities associated with a local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN), Internet and intranet systems, and other data networks; coordinating network design and installation, training, monitoring, and analysis of existing hardware and software; evaluating potential network enhancements; and serving as lead worker providing direction to others. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
EssentialFunctions
- Coordinates the operational, technical, and support requirements for highly complex network computing systems; evaluates policies and procedures designed to ensure integrity of the network environment to include procedures necessary to save and recover from hardware and software failure.
- Monitors the operational network environment and takes corrective measures to ensure efficient performance; evaluates various hardware and software resources to identify strengths and weaknesses.
- Assists with the preparation and analysis of operation effectiveness and user support statistics; provides input for improvements and assists with the implementation of corrective measures; assists with the preparation of budget recommendations.
- Assists with the development of goals and objectives for the development of field support staff; provides support in the use of available hardware, software, and utilities to include the installation, testing, maintenance, and application of vendor updates to software.
- Supervises the work of others.
- Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
A. Education, Experience, and Training
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Major coursework in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field preferred. Each year of experience beyond the required four years may be substituted for thirty semester hours on a year-for-year basis.
- Four years full-time, wage-earning experience with automated data processing systems in the installation of computers, printers, communication devices, video surveillance, detection systems, servers, or office automation software in a LAN or WAN environment.
- Experience in current version of Windows operating system providing technical support or maintenance in a customer service environment preferred.
- CompTIA Network+ Certification may be substituted for thirty semester hours.
- Cisco CCNA Certification (Cisco Certified Network Associate) may be substituted for thirty semester hours.
- Corning Fiber Installation (CFI) AND Corning Fiber Testing and Troubleshooting (CTT) or equivalent manufacturer certification may be substituted for thirty semester hours.
- Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure as it is defined by state law.
- Knowledge of network facilities and data processing techniques and equipment.
- Knowledge of a variety of computer application programs and their applicability to computer systems operations.
- Knowledge of information systems performance monitoring and capacity management tools.
- Knowledge of personal computer hardware, software, network operating systems, and security software.
- Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.
- Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
- Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
- Skill to recognize, analyze, and resolve network problems.
- Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Skill in the installation and maintenance of telecommunications, network, and computer hardware.
- Skill in the use of computers and related equipment in a stand-alone or local area network environment.
- Skill to supervise the work of others.
