Nature & Purpose of Position

First-Year Experience Student Marketing and Event Assistant will work in a positive, structured, team centered environment. They will assist the Associate Director of Marketing and Student Engagement plan, create, manage, implement, and evaluate the social media and marketing communications for First-Year Experience, its programs, and events. They will work with FYE staff to develop content for various mediums (ads, posters, brochures, web pages, social media, etc.)

as needed. Assist with FYE event logistics including New Student Convocation, First-Year Learning Communities events, FORWARD socials and workshops signage, evaluations, event set-up/clean-up, etc. Students applying for this position should have a marketing and social media design focus. They must know and use a variety of social media channels and preferably have an engaged following of their own. They must have strong writing and editing skills.

Video and photography skills are strongly desired. Applicants for this position must also be able to work independently, meet deadlines, and be detail-oriented.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist with planning, creation, and managing of social media content across platforms (Instagram, You Tube, etc.) to promote First-Year Experience programs and events.
  • Assist in designing marketing materials such as ads, posters, brochures, and web content.
  • Support event logistics for major programs (e.g., New Student Convocation, Learning Communities events, FORWARD socials/workshops), including signage, evaluations, and event setup/cleanup.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop creative content and ensure brand consistency.
  • Assist to review analytics to assess success and recommend improvements for future posts
  • Assist to develop strategies to increase followership and engagement
  • Assist in managing regular posting schedule of event promotions
  • Assist to develop miscellaneous content to increase followership
  • Host special programs, such as “Instagram Challenges and Story takeovers”
  • Monitor and respond to comments and direct messages in a timely manner
  • Make occasional posts to cross-promote events hosted by other departments
  • Take photos and videos at events and upload to Social Media
  • Assist with coordinating marketing events
  • Assisting in general marketing support duties
  • Assist to develop and maintain a social media strategy
  • Maintain accurate records of tasks and requests using shared documents (Excel or Word).
  • Provide regular progress updates during team meetings.
  • Complete assigned projects and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Participate in required training and adhere to quality assurance protocols.
  • Prioritize responsibilities to ensure timely completion of requests.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Other Requirements for the Position

Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills required. Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting to accomplish tasks in an ever-changing environment. Work is of moderate technical complexity and based on knowledge from training, experience and/or college level courses.
