Consulting Associate, Engineer – ERM
ERM is seeking early‑career Consulting Associate Engineers with 0–2 years of experience and a degree in Civil, Environmental, or Geotechnical Engineering to join our technical team. In this role you will support the delivery of high‑quality environmental and engineering services to clients across the energy, manufacturing, mining, and chemical sectors throughout the United States.
The position is remote/hybrid with flexibility in working schedule. Qualified candidates from anywhere in the United States will be considered, with immediate needs in the Charleston, WV;
Southwest Virginia; and Southeast Kentucky areas. You will provide strong team support for projects involving site/civil design, stormwater engineering, remediation, erosion and sediment control, water management, geotechnical exploration, and similar work based on your background and interests.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical, or related engineering field (or equivalent experience)
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or current registration for the F.E. exam preferred
- Experience with computer modeling software (AutoCAD/Civil3D, GIS, Hydraflow/Hydro
CAD preferred but not required) - Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite
- Ability to research and prepare memorandums, field reports, and report sections
- Prior internship or professional experience in civil/environmental field a plus
- Attention to detail in reviewing your own work
- Independent and collaborative work style
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, including effective communication with Project Managers
- Willingness to travel for field work a plus
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle (required for frequent travel)
- Interest in expanding beyond minimum experience requirements encouraged
- Position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship
- Work efficiently from a remote location and maintain dependable communication of schedule, work products, and tasks for yourself and your team
- Provide civil design and environmental support for a variety of projects, including field work/sampling, construction monitoring, engineering design, permit application support, and report preparation
- Assist with development of civil/environmental engineering designs and deliverables such as site plans, erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater management plans, and technical reports
- Engage in multiple projects concurrently; projects are often fast‑paced, multi‑faceted, and geographically diverse
- Prepare for, execute, and debrief field work effectively
- Collaborate with team members on project tasks and assignments
- Comply with health, safety, and risk protocols under ERM’s Health and Safety Program
