Description of Position
The Minister to Students will formulate and submit an annual budget for all student ministries and will work with the Minister to Families, church staff, and all youth teachers to develop, define, and communicate strategic goals. Additionally, the Minister to Students will work with church staff and necessary committees in developing a comprehensive plan for student ministries.
Area of ResponsibilityThe Minister to Students will be responsible for: the oversight, direction, and leadership of the various teaching ministries for the students at Shady Oaks Baptist Church.
Responsibilities- Be a liaison for those who need professional care.
- Build relationships with and provide an effective ministry to parents and the students through seminars, workshops, music programs, life groups, community development opportunities, and other special activities.
- Develop and implement a strategic plan for youth ministries in conjunction with the Minister to Families.
- Provide discipleship and evangelism training (e.g. how to live like Christ and bring others to Christ, spiritual growth, Biblical learning, service to others, leadership development, and growth in Christian spiritual living).
- Develop youth into leadership roles.
- Recruit and develop teachers and other adult workers.
- Create a budget which includes training, course materials, and funds to support the ministry activities.
- Implement and supervise the Child Safety Program.
- Maintain pastoral contact with youth and their families, as well as those adults who work in the youth programs.
- Recruit and develop, coordinate and implement programs/materials required for Christian education regardless of the time of day or day of the week these activities may take place.
- Lead a servant-leader life and be personally committed to maintaining a moral and spiritual lifestyle as described in scripture.
- Have a sound doctrinal foundation with the ability to relate God’s word and the issues impacting daily lives today to produce an authentic relationship with God.
- Have a passion for evangelism locally and globally.
- Strive to understand and utilize his/her spiritual gifts within the church.
- Possess strong organizational skills and administrative abilities including the ability and willingness to delegate responsibility.
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Keep abreast of current issues regarding the church and ministry (both theological and worship development).
- Encourage and support missions and other outreach activities to reach others with the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- In the final year of a bachelor’s degree in a ministry related field, prefer completion or working towards a master’s degree in a relevant field at an accredited university/seminary.
- Have experience in church ministry as staff or a volunteer.
- Become a member of Shady Oaks Baptist Church, having given a clear testimony of personal faith in Jesus Christ.
- Support the leadership, ministry, and activities of Shady Oaks Baptist Church through prayer, attendance, and participation.
- Cooperate with staff in fulfilling the Great Commission and the mission of Shady Oaks Baptist Church.
- Be actively involved in discipleship and mentoring.
- Oversee and provide for pastoral care needs as opportunities arise.
- Train and equip members for work in ministry.
- Demonstrate ability to establish rapport on a personal, one-to-one level with members of the congregation, staff, and church governing body.
- Be able to work effectively with church staff and church leadership, and enthusiastically support Shady Oaks’ vision and philosophy of ministry.
- Demonstrate ability to lead people and ministries within the church’s overall vision and lead in a way that fosters ownership and accountability of the ministries.
- Have experience in educational ministry with students and their families.
- Have a proven track record of relating, developing, and equipping youth in their spiritual growth and lives in Christ.
- Possess strong communication skills with experience in leadership, and strategic planning for the goal of building consensus to fulfill and advance the vision of the church and pastor.
- Demonstrate a strategic orientation that continually reassesses the church’s strategies to ensure that they remain appropriate.
- Work in harmony with the Lead Pastor, staff, and ministry leaders.
