Responsibilities
  • After authorization by the facility’s licensed nurse or the resident’s treating physician, administer PRN medications.
  • Organize assigned medication duties: pour, pass, and document all routine prescribed medications; provide PRN medication only upon instruction of a licensed nurse.
  • Document all PRNs according to state standards in the resident’s chart.
  • Observe and report reactions or side effects to the charge nurse.
  • Take and record vital signs before administering medications that could affect them.
  • Administer and document regularly prescribed medications following preparatory steps, and record them in the clinical record.
  • Administer oxygen via nasal channel or a non‑sealing face mask only in emergency; notify and document post‑emergency.
  • When directed by the charge nurse, count narcotics, give routine prescribed narcotics, and document on the appropriate sheet.
Qualifications
  • Successfully completed a state‑approved medication‑administration school.
  • Current state acknowledgment card or certification.
  • Willingness to comply with state agency restrictions.
  • CERTIFIED nursing assistant.
