Overview
Ed Brown is an agronomist employed by H L Hutchinson Ltd. He provides crop production advice to farmers and producers, using knowledge of soils, plants and farm ecosystems to promote sustainable food production and environmental enhancement.
Role summaryAn agronomist acts as a farming consultant advising farmers on all aspects of crop production, including soil management, seed, fertiliser and crop protection products.
Main responsibilities- Crop walking and checking crops for nutrition, pests, weeds and diseases that might need treatment.
- Conduct client meetings, plan farm operations and cropping decisions.
- Organize logistics for seed and sprays to ensure timely delivery.
- Pass grade in English and Mathematics GCSE; no further education required.
- Prior experience in agriculture is helpful; previous farm work during university holidays is noted.
The role involves working in the countryside rather than an office. It is not a 9-to-5 job; during peak times it may require long days and weekends, with flexibility during the working day and quieter periods at other times.
