Senior Pharmacy Technician – Walgreens

Base pay range: $20.50/hr – $27.50/hr

Responsibilities
  • Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy, in accordance with state and federal regulations, and with company policies and procedures.
  • Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Coach pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of the pharmacy cash registers.
  • Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services; resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers.
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including entering patient and drug information, verifying prescriptions, checking for possible interactions, and scheduling workflow.
  • Report prescription errors promptly and adhere to company policies regarding errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policy during prescription dispensing.
  • Register sales on assigned cash register, handle cash, and assist customers to the OTC aisle when possible.
  • Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including those to physicians.
  • Process manual claims for third‑party program prescription services in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Lead Pharmacy Department inventory management activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments, and filing claims for overages, shortages, and damage.
  • Assist the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in analyzing and improving pharmacy financial, customer service, and inventory performance data.
  • Assist pharmacists in administering clinical services (e.g., blood/urine sample collection and labeling) and coordinate clinical services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
  • Cooperate with the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in maintaining relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other health care providers.
  • Assist with exterior and interior maintenance to keep the Pharmacy Department well stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
  • Coaches pharmacy technicians and cashiers on proper processes and tools to drive efficiency.
  • Maintain respectful relationships with coworkers and comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Training & Personal Development
  • Maintain PTCB certification through the designated PTCB training program and/or state‑required certification/registration.
  • Attend training and complete PPLs requested by Manager and acquire continuing education credits; keep knowledge current in healthcare and pharmacy.
Basic Qualifications
  • PTCB certification (except in Puerto Rico).
  • One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
  • Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in certain locations).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Basic math skills (counting, measuring, weighing medications).
  • Basic PC skills (e.g., starting and shutting down computer, using mouse, printing documents, accessing information online).
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
