Summary:
The Director of Business Lending is responsible for the strategic leadership, growth, management, and overall performance of Cape Cod 5’s (the “Bank”) small business lending and Small Business Administration program across its subsidiary banks.
The Director serves as the organization’s internal champion and external representative for business lending, including conventional small business loans and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) lending programs. The position is responsible for developing and executing strategies that expand small business relationships, achieve loan production objectives, maintain strong credit quality, deliver effective customer experience, and support the Bank’s broader strategic objectives.
The Director has responsibility for all aspects of the Business Lending function, including business development, customer engagement, credit and risk management, SBA program administration, loan origination, operations, quality control, servicing oversight, compliance, process improvement, employee development, and performance management.
The Director works extensively across organizational and subsidiary-bank boundaries and partners with Commercial Lending, Retail Banking, Treasury Management, Marketing, Digital Banking, Credit Administration, Operations, Risk Management, Compliance, Finance, Technology, and other business lines to ensure that small business lending is effectively integrated into the organization’s overall banking strategy.
The position leads a small team of lending professionals and requires a proactive, collaborative leader who is comfortable engaging directly with customers, employees, senior leadership, community organizations, referral sources, and other external constituencies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership and Program Management
- Develop, recommend, and execute enterprise-wide strategy for Business Lending across Cape Cod 5.
- Serve as the organization’s primary advocate and subject matter expert for small business and SBA lending.
- Identify opportunities to expand the organization’s small business lending capabilities, market presence, products, delivery channels, and customer relationships.
- Establish annual business plans, production objectives, priorities, and performance expectations for the Business Lending function.
- Monitor industry developments, competitive trends, customer needs, SBA program changes, and emerging technologies affecting small business lending.
- Recommend enhancements to products, processes, policies, technology, staffing, and delivery models.
- Ensure Business Lending activities support the strategic priorities, risk appetite, and financial objectives of the Bank.
Business Development and Customer Engagement
- Serve as the external face of Business Lending, actively representing Cape Cod 5 within the communities and markets served.
- Develop and maintain relationships with small business owners, prospective borrowers, accountants, attorneys, business brokers, commercial real estate professionals, economic development organizations, SBA resources, Certified Development Companies, government agencies, and other centers of influence.
- Proactively identify and develop new lending and banking relationships.
- Meet directly with applicants and customers to understand their business, financing needs, financial condition, and strategic objectives.
