- Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant, Oncology
Job Description
Purpose of Position :
The Staff Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will work with the Medical Oncology Division of the Department of Medicine and Radiation Oncology Division. The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will assist the attending oncologists in all areas of patient care in the Oncologist Service. Rotation and call schedules will be determined by patient need and may include both nighttime on-call responsibilities and weekend coverage.
- The Staff Nurse Practitioneror Physician Assistantwillwork closely and cooperatively with the Hospital and the Oncologist sand other extenders on the Hospital’sMedical Staff in clinically integrating the Hospital’sOncologyservice across inpatient and outpatient settings as well as across all Hospital sites and otherwise within the Cape Cod Healthcare system.
- The Staff Nurse Practitioneror Physician Assistant will provide
Night-time and/or weekend coverage
Hospital Rounds asdeterminedby the Oncology team and based on patient needs and demands. - Under the general direction of the collaborating /supervising oncologist, elicits the history of the present illness, performs physical examination,assessfamilyand social history,orders appropriate diagnostic studies and provides treatment of acute problems for oncology patients, collaborating with outside facilities as needed
- Provides follow-up care for specific oncology patients including prescriptions for medication, blood products, routine diagnostics andfollow-up studies and therapeutic measures in accordance with written practice guidelines. TheNP/PAwill write prescriptions aspermittedbystate regulations and his/her license.
- Relays appropriate clinicalinformationregardingpatient care to the collaborating/supervising physician and referring physicians.
- Responsible for many aspects of care under the supervision of the attending physician, including but not limited to reviewing fluid and electrolyte management, nutrition, pain management, transfusion therapy, anticoagulation management, education and survivorship care plans provision, reviewing and signing laboratory and imaging results and triage to the emergency department or other care settings as needed.
- Following procedures, manage,monitor chemo and immunotherapytreatmentand perform bone marrow biopsies under the supervision of the attending physician
- Assistsin the evaluation and management of clinical events such as treatment reactions andacute patient issues related to disease process or treatment.
- Returns calls to patients and Hospital personnel ona timely basis. Placetimelycalls to patients and Hospital personnel as needed for ancillary test results, to order follow-up…
