Job Title: Analyst-Lead
Location: ARL Maryland - Adelphi, MD 20783 US (Primary)
Job DescriptionThis position supports advanced research and development in semiconductor materials, wide-bandgap device physics, ambient-powered sensing platforms, and novel robotic sensor deployment mechanisms. The engineer will contribute to design, simulation, fabrication, and characterization of next-generation sensor systems using a combination of microfluidics, additive manufacturing, mechanical/thermal modeling, electronics testing, and TCAD-based semiconductor device modeling. The role includes preparation of technical documentation, laboratory experimentation, system-level prototyping, and collaboration with ARL scientists and engineers to mature early-stage concepts into validated research outcomes.
EssentialJob Duties
- Perform design, modelling, and simulation of semiconductor materials, wide-bandgap structures, and novel HEMT device architectures using TCAD tools.
- Conduct research on ambient-energy robotic sensor deployment, including phase-change mechanisms, microfluidics, mechanical/thermal modelling, and prototype fabrication.
- Develop custom testbeds to evaluate unit processes, sensing mechanics, and system response across substrate media and operating conditions.
- Support fabrication workflows by applying modelling insights to device design, providing characterization through state-of-the-art electronic and materials testing methodologies.
- Prepare technical reports, proposals, analysis results, presentations, and documentation in support of ARL research tasks.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams to execute laboratory experiments, interpret data, validate hypotheses, and transition concepts through TRL maturation stages.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Hands-on experience in laboratory research, modelling, simulation, device testing, and prototype development.
- Knowledge of semiconductor physics, analog electronics, microfluidics, and mechanical/thermal modelling concepts.
- Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, Solid Works, LabVIEW, microcontrollers, electronics testing equipment, and 3D printing.
- Ability to participate in technical research, prepare detailed analyses, and document experimental results.
