Position Overview

Provides evaluation and occupational therapy treatment in accordance with agency standards and the laws and regulations governing the provision of occupational therapy services in the State of Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia and other regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Analyzes and documents patients and family's responses to interventions, evaluates measurable progress toward goals, revises plan of care, and makes recommendations for updates using knowledge of interventions and resources. Establishes and documents teaching plans for patients/families based on their level of knowledge and diagnosis.
  • Communicates verbally, in writing, and through demonstrations respectfully with patients, families, supervisor, peers, and other health team members. Establishes visit schedule and informs patient/family and team supervisor.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Completes mandatory trainings including annual Code of Conduct compliance.
  • Demonstrates basic leadership skills as a Case Manager and in other required responsibilities.
  • Implements an effective occupational therapy treatment plan in collaboration with the patient, family/caregiver, physician, and health care team, modifying the plan as needed. Conducts interviews, observations, palpation, specialized assessments (goniometry, muscle strength testing, sensory testing) using tools such as goniometer, sphygmomanometer, stethoscope.
  • Independently implements and documents plan of care for patients with routine to complex problems, ensuring interventions align with the plan, reflect standard of care, and utilize agency and community resources. Performs interventions consistent with home‑care protocols.
  • Organizes patient assignments, seeks assistance for complex cases, maintains clinical records, collects data, prepares reports, and submits admission records within 48 hours and daily records within 24 hours with 95% technical audit accuracy. Manages caseload mix and productivity for acuity level of patients.
  • Initiates and participates in regularly scheduled case conferences, including all disciplines and involving patients and families in mutual goal setting.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with other departments and participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams, committees, and community outreach efforts. Pursues educational programs and affiliations to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Performs history and assessment related to patient illness to determine habilitation/rehabilitation needs. Recommends adaptive equipment and/or home modifications to maximize functional abilities and safety. Identifies discharge planning needs and referrals to community resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including procedures and modalities such as therapeutic exercise, functional mobility training, gait training, heat/cold application, and ultrasound.
Qualifications
  • Education
    :
    Master’s degree from an ACOTE‑accredited Occupational Therapy program recognized by the Board of OT.
  • Experience
    : 1–2 years of clinical experience.
  • Licenses & Certifications
    :
    • Registered Occupational Therapist license to practice in DC, MD, VA (or any combination based on location) required upon hire.
    • Valid State Driver’s License and dependable vehicle required upon hire.
    • CPR (BLS/NRP) certification from AHA or American Red Cross within 90 days required.
    • Additional specialty certifications may vary by department.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    :
    • Good clinical skills.
    • Strong verbal and written communication.
    • Basic computer skills preferred.
    • Smartphone experience.

Hiring Range
: USD $72,758.40 - USD $ per year.
