About the Role
Assistant Librarian is a UGC-approved academic designation, on par with Assistant Professor, and not an assistant-to-the-Librarian role. The College has two Assistant Librarians, each with independent charge of library functions and full academic responsibilities under the College's library and information science cadre.
Role and responsibilities
Independent management of assigned library operations, including cataloguing, classification, and circulation
Development and maintenance of print and digital collections, and e-resource/database subscriptions
Supporting faculty and student research through reference and information literacy services
Contributing to NAAC, NIRF, and AQAR documentation relating to library infrastructure and usage
Collaborating with departments on curriculum-linked resource development
Requirements
Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLISc) or a UGC-prescribed equivalent, with a minimum of 55% marks from a recognised university
NET/SET qualification in Library and Information Science as per UGC norms (candidates without NET/SET may be considered if those with NET/SET are not available)
A PhD in any field and/or second Master's degree and/or
B.Ed. would be an added advantage
Working knowledge of library automation, digital repositories, and e-resource management preferred
The role is ideal for a self-driven Librarian who can take ownership, work independently, and is ambitious enough to ensure the centrality of the library even in today's context.
