Migration Engineer

Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Migration Engineer to manage, optimize, and handle migrations within Atlassian ecosystem, including Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Crowd. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in application and backend administration, along with hands-on experience in executing Atlassian migrations using native and third-party tools. This role requires deep knowledge of Atlassian Server/Data Center platforms, migration assistants, CSV-based migrations, system stability, security, and performance optimization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Application Administration:
- Manage and administer Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Crowd, including general setup, configurations, security management, and ongoing maintenance.
- Backend Administration:
- Perform system-level troubleshooting by analyzing application logs, monitoring system health, and optimizing application and infrastructure performance.
- Atlassian Migrations:
- Plan and execute Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket migrations between Server, Data Center, and Cloud platforms.
- Hands-on experience with JCMA (Jira Cloud Migration Assistant), CCMA (Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant), and BCMA (Bitbucket Cloud Migration Assistant).
- Perform CSV-based migrations using Jira’s native import capabilities for projects, issues, users, workflows, and configurations when required.
- Migrate data from third-party tools such as Service Now (SNOW), Fresh service, and similar ITSM platforms into Jira.
- Assess, document, and communicate what data, configurations, and customizations will and will not migrate using migration tools or CSV methods.
- Conduct pre-migration assessments, data cleanup, field mapping, dependency analysis, and post-migration validation.
- Linux Administration:
- Utilize Linux commands for system-level diagnostics, issue resolution, migration preparation, and application maintenance.
- Scripting & Automation:
- Implement automation and advanced configurations using Script Runner for Jira, including Groovy scripting to support workflows, validations, and migration-related custom logic.
- Incident Management:
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to application performance, security, integrations, and post-migration discrepancies.
- Workflow & Process Optimization:
- Configure and optimize Jira workflows, custom fields, issue types, permissions, notifications, and automation rules to align with business requirements.
- License & Security Management:
- Maintain compliance with license usage, security policies, access control, and user management across all Atlassian applications.
- Ad-hoc Configuration & Support:
- Provide support for ad-hoc configuration requests, system upgrades, integrations, and migration-related troubleshooting.
Required
Qualifications & Skills:
- 5 - 8 years of experience administering Atlassian applications (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Crowd) on Server/Data Center platforms.
- Proven hands-on experience in Atlassian migrations, including Jira and/or Confluence migrations.
- Strong working knowledge of JCMA, CCMA, BCMA, and Jira CSV-based migration methods, including tool limitations and best practices.
- Experience migrating or integrating third-party tools such as Service Now, Fresh service, or similar platforms.
- Strong experience in Linux system administration, including shell scripting and command-line utilities.
- Proficiency in Script Runner for Jira, including Groovy scripting for automation and customization.
- Experience with application log analysis, system health monitoring, and performance troubleshooting.
- Experience with integrations, REST APIs, and Atlassian Marketplace apps such as Tempo Timesheets, Jira Misc Workflow Extensions, Custom Charts for Jira, and eazy
BI for Jira.
- Strong understanding of workflow automation, security settings, and best practices in Jira and Confluence.
- Knowledge of database management (Postgre
SQL, MySQL, or similar) is a plus.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Atlassian certifications (ACP-100, ACP-120, ACP-600, or equivalent).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Dev Ops practices.
- Knowledge of Atlassian Cloud administration (Jira Cloud, Confluence Cloud) is a plus.
- Experience leading or supporting large-scale or enterprise migration projects.
