About the Engagement
You'll be working with a global fast-casual restaurant brand that's experiencing rapid growth across multiple countries and franchise models. Their Digital Engineering organization builds and operates a large-scale, cloud-native ordering and operations platform that powers their business. Technology isn't just a support function here - it's a strategic growth enabler.
The engineering culture is built around accountability, ownership, and impact. They operate lean teams of senior individual contributors, led by strong onshore technical leaders in Australia. The expectation is simple: deliver production-ready software with a high bar for quality, security, and reliability.
Role Overview
We're looking for a Tech Delivery Lead who will work directly with the client's onshore engineering leadership to coordinate delivery across a small, high-performing offshore team. This role requires someone who can balance technical depth with delivery management, acting as both a technical contributor and a coordination point between offshore engineers and onshore leads.
You'll be working within a culture of ownership and accountability, where engineers are owners, not task-takers. This means proactive communication, commitment to delivery timelines, and the ability to escalate early when needed.
Experience in the QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) or retail/hospitality technology space is highly valued, as you'll be working with a global fast-casual restaurant brand building large-scale ordering and operations platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery Coordination
Work closely with the client's onshore engineering leads to understand sprint goals, priorities, and technical direction
Coordinate work across team of engineers, ensuring alignment with delivery expectations
Facilitate daily standups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and demos with the offshore team
Maintain strong documentation and handover discipline
Ensure minimum 5 hours daily overlap with Sydney business hours (6:30 AM - 11:30 AM IST)
Technical Contribution
Actively contribute as a senior full-stack engineer on the AWS serverless platform
Design and implement features across backend (Lambda, NestJS, API Gateway) and frontend (React, Next.js)
Write production-ready code with high standards for quality, security, and reliability
Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions
Build event-driven architectures using SQS, SNS, and Event Bridge
Team Support
Support and mentor offshore engineers, helping them integrate into the client's culture
Identify skill gaps and coordinate knowledge sharing within the team
Ensure no single points of failure - cross-skill the team on critical components
Champion automation and cloud-native patterns
Communication & Escalation
Provide clear, proactive communication to the client's onshore leadership
Escalate blockers, risks, or technical concerns early
Translate technical challenges into business context when needed
Maintain transparency on progress, challenges, and capacity
Technical Requirements
Must Have
10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a technical lead or delivery coordination role
Strong hands-on experience with AWS serverless architecture (Lambda, API Gateway, Event Bridge, SQS, SNS)
Expert-level Type Script and Node.js skills
Production experience with NestJS or similar Node.js frameworks
Solid understanding of React and Next.js for frontend development
Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (AWS CDK preferred, Terraform acceptable)
Working knowledge of Aurora Serverless (MySQL) and DynamoDB
Familiarity with observability tools (Cloud Watch, X-Ray, Open Telemetry, Datadog)
Experience with agile delivery practices and working with distributed teams
Strong Plus
Experience in QSR (Quick Service Restaurant), retail, or hospitality technology
Experience with ECS Fargate deployments
Knowledge of React Native and mobile app development
Exposure to AI/ML services, particularly AWS Bedrock
Experience with QA automation frameworks (Playwright)
Background working with Australian or offshore-onshore engagement models
Security & Compliance
Understanding of secure development practices
Experience with SSO/MFA authentication patterns (Okta, AWS SSO)
Awareness of SOC2/ISO 27001 requirements
Cultural Fit
You'll thrive in this role if you:
Take ownership of outcomes, not just tasks
Communicate clearly and escalate proactively
Have a strong bias toward automation and cloud-native patterns
Value continuous learning and cross-skilling
Respect delivery commitments and timelines
Want to work with a global brand where technology drives growth
Enjoy the challenge of building at scale with high quality bars
