The Senior Storage Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and operating scalable enterprise storage platforms across Storage Area Network (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), and backup environments at T-Mobile. This role spans the full data lifecycle and requires deep expertise across all three domains.
A key focus of this role is modernizing storage operations through automation, software engineering practices, and the use of AI-driven tools. The engineer will leverage technologies such as Git-based workflows and AI platforms (e.g., Chat GPT, Claude) to build automation, develop intelligent operational agents, and reduce manual effort across SAN, NAS, and backup services.

What You’ll Do:

Design, develop, and deploy enterprise SAN, NAS, and backup solutions that meet business and technical requirements.
Operate and manage SAN, NAS, and backup environments, ensuring high availability and performance.
Implement and manage replication and disaster recovery strategies across SAN, NAS, and backup platforms.
Automate storage operations across all domains using APIs, scripting, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
Leverage AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) to build automation workflows, operational tooling, and intelligent agents.
Develop and maintain Git-based workflows for infrastructure and automation code.
Collaborate with compute, virtualization, and Kubernetes teams to deliver full-stack infrastructure solutions.
Drive innovation by evaluating and implementing new technologies, automation frameworks, and AI capabilities.
Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex storage and data management issues in distributed environments.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to architecture, standards, and best practices.

What You’ll Bring :
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
5–8+ years of hands-on experience in storage engineering or infrastructure engineering.
Proven experience delivering scalable, resilient enterprise storage solutions across SAN, NAS, and backup.
Strong programming/scripting skills ( Python, Go, or similar ) with a focus on automation.
Experience using Git and modern development workflows for infrastructure code.

Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) and a demonstrated interest in using AI agents to automate operations, reduce manual toil, and unify infrastructure workflows.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in complex distributed systems.
Excellent communication and documentation abilities.

Must Have

Skills:

Expert-level experience with  SAN  platforms (Dell, Pure, IBM, or equivalent)
Expert-level experience with  Cisco MDS SAN switching
Deep understanding of  SAN architecture , zoning, multipathing, and performance tuning
Expert-level experience with enterprise NAS platforms (Net App, Dell, or equivalent)
Strong understanding of file protocols (NFS, SMB/CIFS) and data services
Expert-level experience with enterprise backup platforms (Cohesity, Rubrik, or equivalent)
Strong understanding of backup architectures, retention, and recovery workflows
Strong understanding of storage protocols (FC, iSCSI, NFS, SMB/CIFS, S3).
Proven ability to design and implement disaster recovery and business continuity strategies across storage domains.
Strong automation skills including  AI agent design , API integration,  scripting   (Python, Bash) , and infrastructure-as-code approaches—with a demonstrated ability to turn manual operational processes into fully automated, agent-driven workflows.

Experience with monitoring and  observability tools  (Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, etc.).
Advanced troubleshooting skills in large-scale, distributed storage environments.

Nice To Have:

Experience with Kubernetes persistent storage (CSI drivers, dynamic provisioning).
Familiarity with cloud storage services and hybrid storage architectures.
Experience building internal developer platforms or self-service infrastructure tooling.
Exposure to advanced automation frameworks and orchestration platforms.
Exposure to containerized and virtualized environments (Kubernetes, Open Shift) on Linux, with interest in applying AI agents to automate operations within these stacks.
Relevant storage or infrastructure certifications.
