Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Payroll Accountant to work on our payroll team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our REC facility in Idaho Falls, Idaho with every other Friday off.

In this role, you will process and edit employee time billing sheets and handle weekly company payroll, ensuring adherence to company payroll rules. As an accountant on the payroll team, you will report to the Senior Manager of the department.

Responsibilities
  • Control/reconciliation of accounts and records (balance sheet, P&L, bank accounts, etc.).
  • Complete reports/schedules for internal audiences (management reporting) and/or for external audiences (compliance reporting) including consolidation of financial statements, cash flow reporting, budget reporting, etc.
  • Prepare income statements, balance sheets, consolidated statements, and various other accounting statements and reports.
  • Evaluate existing company policies and procedures related to the accounting area of assignment and interpret and apply Federal Regulations as applicable to contract(s). Verify compliance of activities with plans, policies, and procedures of the laboratory and applicable laws, including federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Reconcile, research, analyze and account for expenditures. Prepare necessary journal entries. Reconcile totals as needed. Review and verify the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records.
  • Analyze cost records to ascertain distribution of costs for various organizations of the laboratory.
  • Update desk procedures for assigned area and maintain written procedures and policy documents.
  • Classify labor, material, and overhead costs to compute the cost of product or service.
  • If assigned to Payroll group, resolve and address various complex payroll problems and issues including taxes, disabilities, garnishments, and payroll deductions. Perform payroll distribution activities and associated accounting activities.
  • Identify opportunities for process and system improvements and provide solutions to a variety of problems to management. Provide functional support and expertise in system upgrades or changes. Participate in process improvement committees as assigned.
  • Provide metrics related to accounting and operations.
  • Develop expertise, execute, and provide guidance in the area of responsibility.
  • Conduct special studies and develop or recommend enhancements to current or new accounting methods, procedures, or systems.
  • Interface with other related internal organizations to ensure the proper flow of accounting information.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Level 1:
    Bachelor’s degree in business management, Accounting, or related field and 0+ years of experience.
  • Level 2:
    Bachelor’s degree in business management, Accounting, or related field and 2+ years of experience in business and/or financial areas, general accounting, public accounting, or business/office accounting OR Master's degree in business management, Accounting, or related field and 0 years of experience.
Preferred Experience
  • Ideally, you will have experience working with unions and Davis Bacon work and possess comprehensive knowledge of payroll rules for various employee groups, including exempt, not exempt and union employees.

  • The pay range for this position is:
    Level 1 ($ 46,392- $ 90,564) / Level 2 ($ 56,196 - $109,644). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • Multi‑Level: This is a multi‑level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
Physical Requirements

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, operate a computer keyboard or type, handle materials, or reach with hands and arms performing the essential functions of the classification.
