Nuclear Engineering and Industrial Management Regular Faculty

The Department of Nuclear Engineering & Industrial Management at the University of Idaho – Idaho Falls Center for Higher Education invites applicants for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank in thermal hydraulics, thermal sciences, or nuclear power systems.

The faculty candidate will join a community in Idaho Falls with diverse research interests related to the nuclear fuel cycle and various other aspects of nuclear energy. The faculty candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in Nuclear Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Postdoctoral experience is strongly preferred.

The successful applicant will obtain independent, external funding to maintain an active research group and publish regularly with graduate students in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings and will engage in teaching graduate courses in their area of expertise and mentor graduate students.

Responsibilities include developing a national reputation and having an active role in their professional society. They will also show the potential to develop collaborations both within the Department, and between the faculty members at Idaho Falls Center for Higher Education as well as the main campus in Moscow.

Required qualifications include an earned doctorate degree in Nuclear Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, postdoctoral experience, experience with thermal hydraulics modeling, experience with written and oral communication, experience working collaboratively, experience in the academic environment, ability to obtain a DOE security clearance, and ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Idaho within 5 years of hire.

Preferred qualifications include a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Nuclear Engineering, potential in research success and experience in collaborative research programs, experience teaching at an institution of higher learning, and experience with and understanding of working with national laboratories and other large consortia.
