Job Description Nuclear Facility Research Technician - (23562)## Description The Fuels Post-Irradiation Examination division is seeking Nuclear Facility Technicians to work in the Hot Fuels Examination Facility (HFEF), Idaho National Laboratory's flagship facility for conducting post-irradiation examinations of nuclear fuels and materials. This position is located at our Materials and Fuels Complex. Our team works a 4x10 schedule every Friday off.

INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for DOE-NE, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment. MFC hosts a unique combination of personnel, facilities and infrastructure and offers the ability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels from fuel development and fabrication through post irradiation analysis.

You will operate facility and process systems in Lab and Hot Cell Services nuclear facilities. Perform activities including, but not limited to, receiving, storing, packaging, tracking, analyzing and processing nuclear material in hot-cells, glove boxes, vaults, radioactive material confinement tents and hoods.
** Responsibilities:
*** Operate and perform maintenance on facility equipment and systems.
* Support researchers with loading/unloading/maintaining advanced research systems, remote handling equipment, shielded casks, facility utilities, operational support systems, glove boxes, shielded hot cells and testing equipment.
* Perform operations in accordance with approved procedures and DOE requirements.
* Complete and maintain qualifications in designated specialized areas of facility and process operations.
* Track, package, transfer, receive, and store fissionable materials, construct power units for space and security systems, and handle and treat radioactive and hazardous material.
* Maintain accurate records of facility operations, equipment performance, production, treatment, and experimental data.
* Perform technical procedures that range from standard to specialized.
* Complete and maintain qualifications in designated specialized areas of facility and process operations.
* Other duties as assigned.## Qualifications

* Minimum Requirements:

*** Level 3:
Graduation from high school or equivalent and 8+ years' experience, associates or graduate with 4+ years experience.
* Relevant experience working in an industrial or commercial environment where candidates can demonstrate a strong mechanical aptitude, strong hand-eye coordination, electrical, skilled trades, or scientific application.
* This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.  
** Preferred Requirements:
*** Practical experience with sample preparation, microscopes, periscopes, grinding, polishing, metallography, and micro-hardness testing.
** Job Information:
*** The pay range for this position is:
Level 3 ($36.08- $59.52). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

* Physical Requirements:

** While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and may work in confined spaces. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and operating a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance.
