Position
Purpose:
Provide Radiological Engineering support for assigned projects and facilities, including the Idaho Cleanup Project (ICP) Radiation Protection (RP) Program. Review and evaluate both proposed and ongoing radiological work activities to facilitate planning and support for radiological operations by identifying, analyzing, and mitigating radiological hazards using engineering principles and work controls. Maintain a field presence during radiological activities to ensure that proper radiological controls are implemented in work practices and that ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles are followed.
Develop, review, and implement procedures, technical documents, reports, work control documents, and more, while conducting internal assessments, instrumentation evaluations, radiological software management, monitoring, and data analysis to ensure adherence to the Radiological Control Manual, RP Procedures, and relevant regulations. Assist with health physics evaluations and promote continuous improvement in the RP program by identifying issues, deficiencies, opportunities for enhancement, and best practices, and by taking appropriate follow-up actions.
Minimum Qualification Requirements (Education/Experience):
This is a multi-level posting and the successful candidate will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills. At the Idaho Environmental Coalition, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Health Physics, Radiological Science, Engineering, or a related physical science, mathematics, or engineering field, including formal training in RP. Equivalent work experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree as specified in Department of Energy (DOE) Order 426.2. A combination of experience and education may be substituted for a degree. Bachelors equivalent is 8 years of directly relevant experience.
Experience:
Salary Grade 15: 2 years relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.
Salary Grade 18: 12 years relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.
Should include 1 year of nuclear experience and experience performing DOE related radiological activities or meet the alternative requirements as specified in DOE Order 426.2.
Security:
This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy 'Q' clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Note:
Successful completion of the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) examination Part I, active registration with the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT), or advanced academic degrees related to RP or Health Physics may serve as the basis for equivalency to the education and experience requirements listed above.
