Schedule:
9x80 or alternate Friday off, located at the INL Administration Building (IAB) facility.
- Apply operational cloud infrastructure and technical support across distributed and hybrid architectures to ensure functionality, security, compliance, and automation.
- Plan, develop, and implement solutions to complex automation problems and major projects.
- Support project plans and requirements, establishing scope, cost, and schedule estimates for design and development activities.
- Participate in technical reviews for projects at various development phases and provide recommendations for computer technology solutions.
- Maintain and upgrade services for data protection, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery strategies for hosted and on‑premise workloads.
- Manage and optimize cloud resources to ensure cost‑efficiency, performance, and availability.
- Monitor system performance, reliability, system health, troubleshoot issues, and provide timely resolutions to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Dev Sec Ops , Cyber, Architects, Network, Data Scientists, AI Engineers) to define cloud strategies, architecture, platforms, and best practices.
- Evaluate and integrate AI/ML services into cloud architectures to enhance automation, observability, and operational intelligence.
- Implement and manage cloud security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Automate deployment, monitoring, and management processes using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools and practices.
- Create and review new methodologies and architectures that advance the organization’s mission and incorporate security into the application development and delivery process.
- Ensure compliance with INL’s safety, security, environmental, health and quality assurance requirements.
- Document activities, reports, and existing technologies.
- Write and present technical papers representing the INL.
- Review and analyze source code and system design documentation to assess code quality, identify potential defects, and recommend improvements.
- Engage in professional development to maintain technical proficiency with current and emerging technologies.
- Define strategic direction in assigned areas of expertise.
- Mentor junior engineers.
- Level 3:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field and at least 5 years of direct professional experience. - Level 4:
Bachelor’s Degree and at least 9 years of direct professional experience. - May accept experience in lieu of education for a High School diploma or equivalent with at least 11 years of direct experience (Level 3) or 15 years (Level 4).
- Professional certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect and Microsoft Certified:
Azure Solutions Architect Expert preferred. - Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship.
- Proficiency in cloud platforms such as AWS or Microsoft Azure.
- Strong understanding of cloud architecture, including compute, storage, networking, and security components.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with automation and configuration management tools like Ansible and Terraform.
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Power Shell.
- Pay Range – Level 3: $93,204 – $191,076;
Level 4: $111,888 – $229,284. - TDP:
Requires pre‑employment drug screen and periodic testing throughout employment. - Multi‑Level Post:
Position placed at appropriate level based on experience and skills.
