Remote (United States) | Full-time, W-2 | Two (2) openings
POSITION SUMMARYUnited Global Technologies, Inc. (UGT) is expanding its cloud engineering team supporting a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory. We are hiring two Cloud Engineers to bring depth and rigor to the client's AWS and Azure environments. These engineers will join an established, high-performing UGT team already delivering cloud services to this client, working alongside laboratory staff on broad-based cloud architecture, engineering, and strategic planning.
This is architecture-forward work, not ticket queue work. You will help shape where workloads live, how the multi-cloud estate is structured and governed, and what the client's cloud roadmap looks like over the next several years — and then build what you design.
The two positions are complementary rather than identical. One role will lead with AWS depth; the other will lead with Azure depth. Both engineers are expected to be functional across both platforms and to converge the two estates on a common set of automation, identity, security, and governance standards. If you are strong in one cloud and eager to go deep in the second, we want to talk to you.
This is a direct, full-time W-2 position with UGT on a long-term dedicated client assignment — not a short-term, temporary, or contract-to-hire engagement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES — BOTH POSITIONS- Develop cloud architecture and reference designs for AWS and Azure, and guide workload placement decisions across the multi-cloud estate.
- Contribute to cloud strategy and roadmap planning with client stakeholders — modernization sequencing, platform selection, migration planning, and the business case behind each.
- Design, deploy, and operate secure, scalable cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure in support of mission, enterprise IT, and research computing workloads.
- Author and maintain Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred; Cloud Formation, Bicep, or ARM as applicable) so that environments are reproducible, version-controlled, and peer-reviewed.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployment, with automated testing, policy checks, and controlled promotion across environments.
- Implement cloud security and governance: identity and access management, network and enclave segmentation, encryption and key management, data classification handling (including CUI), and log aggregation into the enterprise SIEM.
- Apply and document compliance controls aligned to NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, and DOE cybersecurity requirements, and support assessment, authorization, and continuous-monitoring activities.
- Drive observability and reliability: monitoring, alerting, logging, capacity planning, backup and recovery, and participation in incident response and root-cause analysis.
- Own cloud cost management: tagging discipline, rightsizing, reserved capacity and savings plans, budget alerting, and clear chargeback/showback reporting.
- Partner with client technical staff to translate requirements into architecture, document designs and runbooks, present recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences, and raise the overall cloud maturity of the teams you support.
- Contribute to standardization across clouds so that patterns established in one platform are deliberately mirrored in the other rather than reinvented.
- Own AWS landing zone, multi-account, and Organizations/Control Tower architecture, including SCPs and account vending.
- Engineer core AWS services: IAM, VPC and hybrid connectivity, EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, ECS/EKS, Cloud Watch, Cloud Trail, Config, Guard Duty, and Security Hub.
- Serve as the technical…
