About the opportunity

BK Machine Shop is hiring a CNC Machinist to help produce precision parts for prototype and production projects. Whether you're starting your machining career or bringing years of experience, we welcome applicants who take pride in accurate work, enjoy solving practical problems, and want to build their skills.

Based in Idaho Falls, BK Machine Shop has served commercial customers for more than 25 years. Our capabilities include CNC milling, turning, Swiss machining, fabrication, and prototyping.

You'll work on a variety of projects, from newly designed parts and small batches to repeat production runs. Responsibilities will reflect your experience and demonstrated abilities; previous machining experience is not required to apply.

What you'll do
  • Operate CNC mills or lathes to produce parts according to drawings, work orders, and specifications.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and machining requirements.
  • Select and install cutting tools, work holding fixtures, and machine accessories.
  • Monitor production and make adjustments to maintain part quality and machining efficiency.
  • Inspect first parts, parts in process, and finished parts using precision measuring instruments and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), as appropriate.
  • Work with teammates to troubleshoot problems and improve production processes.
  • Follow safe work practices and maintain an organized work area.

As your experience allows, you may also:

  • Plan machining processes for new parts, including tooling, work holding, and operation sequences.
  • Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs.
  • Set up machines and establish cutting parameters, including spindle speeds, feed rates, and depths of cut.
  • Document setups and processes for consistent, repeatable production.
  • Set up, program, and operate bar feeders, pallet changers, robotic loading systems, and other automation equipment.
What we're looking for
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Math skills for measurements and calculations.
  • Practical problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.
  • Dependability, clear communication, and the ability to work with a team.
  • Commitment to working safely.

Previous experience with CNC machining, programming, machine setup, blueprint reading, tooling, or precision inspection is helpful, but not required.

Pay and benefits
  • $18-22 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Six paid holidays:
New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
  • Medical insurance with an employer contribution toward the eligible employee's premium.
  • Dental and vision insurance available at the employee's expense. Medical, dental, and vision eligibility begins on the first of the month after 60 days of employment for employees meeting the hours requirement.
  • Optional employee-paid Aflac and life insurance.
  • Paid vacation/personal leave accrual beginning after one year: one hour per 40 hours worked, up to 40 hours annually.
  • A 401(k) retirement plan for eligible employees, with plan information provided after 90 days.

Benefits are subject to applicable eligibility requirements, company policies, and plan terms.
