Overview
Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is hiring an Analytical Chemist to work at the Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC). The position follows a 4x10 work schedule, with Friday off each week.
Responsibilities- Conduct research to improve and develop analytical methods for interpreting data in areas such as nuclear science, gas & liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, and radiochemistry.
- Design and participate in experiments to generate data that supports scientific advances and evaluates new research concepts.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and operations staff.
- Serve as a technical liaison with other divisions regarding analytical capabilities and interface directly with laboratory R&D customers, principal investigators, and line management.
- Identify new research opportunities and develop concepts for new products and services for potential sponsors, leading to proposal generation.
- Communicate results through written technical reports and oral presentations to internal and external sponsors.
- Prepare reports, documentation, and research proposals to secure new funding from sponsors.
- Recommend changes in program processes and procedures, ensuring quality assurance and quality control requirements are met.
- May prepare radiological samples in hot cells, glove boxes, or radiological fume hoods.
- Level 1:
Bachelor of Science in chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or a related field with no required experience. - Level 2:
Bachelor of Science in a related field with 2 years of experience. Master’s, PhD, or 0 years of experience are also acceptable. - Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “L” security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required.
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in chemistry, physics, or a related field.
- Pay range:
Level 1 ($66,504 – $136,356) / Level 2 ($79,344 – $162,732). - Testing designated position – pre‑employment drug screen and periodic testing required.
- Multi‑level posting – placement will depend on depth and breadth of experience.
The role requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, and use of stairs in an office and laboratory environment. Hand/finger dexterity for typing, handling materials, and operating equipment is essential. Occasionally lifts or moves up to 25 lb. Adequate visual and hearing acuity are required.
