Plumbing Inspector - DOPL

State of Idaho invites applications for the Plumbing Inspector position within the Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL). The role serves the McCall, Cascade, and Donnelly areas, and successful applicants must reside in Adams or Valley County.

Description

The position is full‑time (40 hours/week) with health, retirement and other benefits. It includes an hourly geographic pay differential of $5.00 for those residing in Adams or Valley County. Some overtime may be required.

Example of Duties
  • Conduct inspections or reviews of activities, determining compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and laws.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance in best practices and corrective actions.
  • Oversee implementation of safety codes, regulations, and laws.
  • Conduct on‑site inspections, investigate complaints, and seek compliance with regulations and safety standards.
  • Assemble and prepare background information and documentation regarding noncompliance activities, code violations, safety reviews, and licensure discrepancies.
  • Provide technical expertise to building officials, building representatives, contractors, and the public.
  • Assist management and legal staff in addressing violations and possibly testify in court or administrative hearings.
Physical Activities
  • Walking throughout the day.
  • Crawling in and out of confined spaces including attics and crawl spaces.
  • Climbing stairs in multi‑story buildings.
  • Climbing ladders up to 14 feet.
  • Driving a state vehicle throughout the day.
  • Moving building material weighing up to 50 pounds.
Experience &

Minimum Qualifications
  • Analyzing data for the purpose of making recommendations.
  • Operating a personal computer.
  • Analyzing data and preparing written reports.
  • Valid driver's license.

Minimum Qualification Specialist:

  • Licensure in Idaho as a journeyman plumber and at least five years' experience as a plumber per Idaho Code 54‑2627.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience interpreting building diagrams, plans, and specifications.
  • Previous certification as a Plumbing Inspector is not required but may improve standing. Successful candidates must obtain certification through the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) within 6 months of hire.
