About Smart Infrastructure – Electrification and Automation:

The Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit offers the full range of energy distribution systems and solutions for all markets and through all sales channels. We provide reliable power distribution grids of today while investing into our Future Grids portfolio and applications to create the power distribution grid of the future. Our comprehensive portfolio meets the growing technical requirements of today’s and tomorrow’s power grid!

The EA Business Unit in Wendell, North Carolina, which is its U.S. headquarters, focuses on photovoltaic inverters, medium-voltage power distribution equipment including packaging and services, and solutions, including automation.

We are looking for a Sr Project Engineer. This position will be based in Wendell, NC. Relocation assistance is available.

We are seeking a Sr Project Engineer to join our Medium Voltage Solutions team.

The role will be hybrid, based in Wendell NC, with flexibility to work in-office and from home.

You’ll make an impact by:
  • Review and analyze customer’s technical needs for substation equipment, performing as technical lead during initial feasibility, quotation processing and submittals, commercial and legal T&Cs review and coordination with the experts, supporting sales and business development with order negotiation, handover to the project management, coordinating and supporting design, submittal and obtaining approvals from customers, manufacturing support, FAT, integration with 3rd party products, installation and commissioning.
  • Coordinate with technical leads for MV/LV AIS/GIS Switchgear, MCC, Drives, Control & Automation, PLC, and with all other Siemens Products.
  • Integration with 3rd party suppliers for all buyout products, including Transformers, E-House, batteries, relay & control panels.
  • Ability to take complete technical ownership of Solution Projects from inception to project handover as a dependable partner with the customers, while guiding a team of jr. engineers, designers and drafters.
  • Provide factory support during the manufacture of your projects to ensure that the final deliverables are true to your design.
  • Be a subject matter expert, sharing knowledge of the product and process to help others on the team achieve their goals.
  • Lead efforts to improve team processes and tools to drive up overall team efficiency.
You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of proven experience working with the design/configuration of electrical power distribution products and systems.
  • 5+ years of Electrical CAD design/drafting experience with protection and control or engineering firms
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring jr. engineers with effective knowledge sharing techniques.
  • Proven track record of innovative thinking and process improvement.
  • Strong working knowledge of standard protection and control technologies used in medium voltage power distribution products with proven ability to share this knowledge with others. This may include knowledge of SCADA Systems, IEC
    61850 & DNP

  • Ability to analyze customers’ technical specifications regarding the application of protection and control systems and apply appropriate product solutions to meet the customers’ expectations in a cost-effective and timely manner.
  • Ability to read, understand and evaluate electrical schematics to identify errors or potential improvements.
  • Experience working with and managing bills of material in an ERP system, preference given for experience with SAP.
