Mine Environmental Coordinator
As a Mine Environmental Coordinator, you provide environmental leadership to third‑party contractors and serve as a primary resource for environmental stewardship at active, legacy, and future mine sites. Your role is crucial in ensuring compliance with environmental sampling standards (air, water, and vegetation), coordinating and conducting fieldwork, validating data, regulatory reporting, and supporting environmental initiatives. You are responsible for maintaining QA/QC (quality assurance and quality control) of all environmental sampling conducted at various mine sites, as required by Bayer, as well as state and federal regulatory agencies.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee third‑party contractors, ensuring completion of Quality Assurance/Quality Control of environmental fieldwork, including multi‑media sampling (surface water, groundwater, overburden, soil, vegetation) at active, legacy, and future mine sites;
- Conduct field investigations and inspections, specifically focusing on dams, fugitive dust, cover systems, seeps, and SWPPP (Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan) at mine sites;
- Manage the environmental sampling program, including responsibility for sampling supplies, preparation, maintenance, and equipment purchases or rentals;
- Review reporting documentation before submission to government agencies, including quarterly POC (Point of Compliance), semi‑annual and annual WRMR (Water Resources Management Report), and work plans;
- Submit quarterly DMRs (Discharge Monitoring Reports) and annual MSGP (Multi Sector General Permit) reports to the Environmental Protection Agency;
- Serve as QAPP Data Validation Manager and Quality Assurance Officer, ensuring mine compliance with QAPP (Quality Assurance Project Plan) for reliable data collection and submission;
- Ensure contractors comply with safety, regulatory, and company guidelines while on‑site;
- Manage annual Stormwater Training for all mining employees and contractors to maintain compliance with MSGP;
- Create multiple site maps using ArcGIS, including annual operations maps and other requested maps from the mining group and plant;
- Oversee contractor selection processes for laboratory analysis (water, soil, vegetation, and rock), environmental fieldwork, and environmental database maintenance;
- Create and maintain an annual sampling budget based on mine plans and sample forecasting, managing the full budgeting process, including invoice approval, processing, cost tracking, capital requests, and budget reconciliation with contractors;
- Ensure compliance of mine office and Enoch Valley office wells with PWS (Public Water Systems) sampling requirements.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
- BS in Environmental Science or a closely related field;
- 3 years of relevant work experience;
- Environmental Sampling Certification, or successful completion of certification within the first 6 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with ArcGIS systems;
- MSHA certification;
- Previous experience working with BLM, IDEQ, USFS, and EPA;
- EQUIS Environmental Database operator experience.
