Location: Coeur d'Alene
  • Schedule/Shift/Hours PRN - (As Needed) - Variable

Under broad supervision, position prepares laboratory specimens for analysis or referral. Position serves as subject matter expert and resource for staff with details of applicable specimen processing workflows.

Responsibilities
  • Trains others in all assigned duties related to the designated area of the lab
  • Performs order entry in LIS
  • Transports specimens and performs all pre-analytical processes related to lab testing
  • Verifies records and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis
  • Troubleshoots problems and identifies and communicates needed updates to procedures
  • Demonstrates customer service skills in answering phone calls and questions from internal and external healthcare staff
  • Works in Processing, Histology, and/or any analytical laboratory testing area (e.g. Microbiology, Chemistry, etc.)
  • Assists as needed with Phlebotomy duties if trained/competent
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
  • Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 1 year of training and work experience in specimen processing, with at least 6 months at Kootenai Health in a specimen processing capacity required
  • Kootenai Health Preceptor Training required within 6 months of hire
  • BLS required, if found to be applicable by laboratory supervisor
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 25 lbs
  • Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position
  • Typical equipment used in a clinical job
  • Must be able to stoop crouch or bend
  • Exposure to needles, blood and body fluids, etc.
