Patient Access Registrars perform all registration and hospital admission functions across St. Mary's Health and Clearwater Valley Health locations. They collect patient and insurance information essential for claims billing, collect patient co-payments and cost share, verify insurance eligibility, process admissions, transfers and discharges, provide required patient and transfer information to medical staff, enter information into the electronic medical record, obtain patient signatures on hospital, clinic, and CMS-required forms.

They greet patients and visitors in a friendly and courteous manner, demonstrate respect and understanding of confidentiality, maintain HIPAA Privacy Standards, and follow all clinic and hospital policy and procedures, as well as federal and state regulations governing the registration process.

Essential Job Functions
  • Register patients through the Emergency Department, outpatient, and clinic registration areas of all hospital and clinic locations.
  • Collect demographic and insurance information at the point of service.
  • Verify insurance coverage to ensure accurate billing.
  • Refer uninsured patients to Financial Counseling for potential payer coverage.
  • Collect pre-arranged or self-pay deposits and point of service copayments.
  • Obtain patient signatures on all required registration forms (Consent, Health Risk Assessments, and other CMS-required Forms).
  • Scan insurance and identification cards into the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Communicate patient information to clinical departments, patient advocacy and care teams.
  • Provide excellent customer service and support the patient experience.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Completes mandatory training.
  • Experience in the Patient Access industry.
  • Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times, follows HIPAA regulations and policies.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, physicians, families and co-workers in person and on telephone.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Minimum of 1 year customer service experience (preferred).
  • One year of experience and/or education in front office procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficient in business office practices and computer applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a focus on customer service and patient experience.
  • Knowledge of current government and commercial payers and payment methodologies.
  • Prior medical office and/or hospital business office experience (highly desirable).
  • Basic medical terminology preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly growing and changing work environment.

Full time, 40 hours per week, variable shift/schedule. CVH is EOE.
