Medical Interpreter Translator Lead

Medical Interpreter Translator Lead facilitates clear, accurate and effective medical and general interpretation for healthcare staff, patients, companions and visitors. This includes interpretation and complex scheduling.

• Interpret complex medical information to patients and/or companions.
• Demonstrate knowledge of National Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Interpreters in Healthcare.
• Assess and monitor patients’ understanding of information conveyed.
• Advise medical personnel about cultural information that may impact patient care.
• Understand variety of regional accents, linguistic styles and registers.
• Interpret with highest degree of accuracy and completeness in consecutive, simultaneous and sight translation modes.
• Self‑correct, understand own linguistic limitations, seek clarification and accept corrections.
• Maintain knowledge of medical and general terminology.
• Possess superior fluency in one or more languages in addition to English.
• Utilize a variety of technology, tools, and resources to support departmental workflows.
• Be cross‑trained to support multiple functional areas.
• Serve as a role model, mentor, trainer and/or resource to coworkers.
• Serve as a subject‑matter expert and may assume leadership responsibility during management absence, as requested.
• Support an exceptional experience through all customer interactions, ensuring professional, timely and accurate communication, both verbally and in writing.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Education:
  
  High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience:
  
  3 years relevant experience.
• Certificate:
  Minimum 40 Hours of Professional Medical Interpreter Training.
• Language Assessment:
  Must successfully pass language assessment through St. Luke’s Health System prior to hire and either be a Certified Healthcare Interpreter from the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters or a Certified Medical Interpreter from the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters.
