- Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations.
- Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
- Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
- Analyses sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician.
- Coordinates work schedule with manager and/or scheduling desk to assure workload coverage.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer's care.
- Maintains exam completion records and functions mandatory for billing process.
- Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area, and maintains adequate supplies.
- Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating hospitals, referral or commercial agencies.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
- Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards.
- Follows hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
- Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times. Follows HIPAA regulations and policies.
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function.
- Communicates with patients, families and co-workers in person, in writing and on telephone.
- Graduate of an accredited program in radiology and/or ultrasound technology.
- One to two years of previous experience, preferred.
- ARRT, ARDMS, required.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position.
- Typical equipment used in a clinical job.
- On feet a minimum of 8-12 hours, depending on length of shift.
- Frequent stooping, bending, reaching, lifting and pushing heavy equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Read charts, dials, equipment settings, literature and other printed and handwritten materials.
- Work with equipment and computers (keyboarding).
- Must be able to maintain a standing position.
- Must be able to stoop, crouch, or bend manipulate equipment settings, computer keyboard, etc.
- Potentially moderate physical activity, including lifting, bending, pulling, and pushing.
- St. Mary’s and Clearwater Health operates 24 hours per day, every day of the year; operational needs of departments may require that you be available to work all shifts, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the patients.
- St. Mary’s and Clearwater Health Clinic locations have operation hours based on locations and patient needs therefore availability to work all clinic shifts, weekends and holidays as appropriate for location will be expected and required.
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment.
